Ever felt a bit like a hamster on a wheel with so much to do and not enough time to do it in? To make the most of how you manage your time, you could do with some guidance that will help you become more efficient and spend fewer hours working. Luckily for you, you’re on your way – awareness is the first step!
Here are some things you can do to manage your time better so you feel calmer and more organised, working fewer hours and spending more time doing the things that matter to you.
- End each day by writing a list of the top three things you want to achieve the following day. Start the following day by working through those three things first.
- Establish where you are losing time in your day. Is it from various notifications that pop up or your love/hate relationship with scrolling through social media? How about turning off your notifications and blocking time in your diary to work on each activity?
- Make a list of the things you always put off, then establish why you don’t do them. Is it because you find them boring, you don’t have the time (excuse the pun), you lack the knowledge, or you feel they take you outside your comfort zone, or is it all of the above?
- Do certain elements of your business feel scary? It is normal to feel fear for your business to grow. When you stop feeling fear, you stop growing! Read here to establish how we overcome fear but also how it serves us. https://louisepengilley.com/blog-comfort-zone/

You’re doing really well but there is a little room for improvement. This might not come as a surprise – perhaps you feel a bit like a hamster on a wheel and nowhere near as organised as you would like.
Here are some things you can do to manage your time better, so you feel calmer and more organised, working fewer hours and spending more time doing the things that matter to you.
- Do you know when you are at your most effective? How about tracking how productive your day has been, along with why this is the case? You can then work out the best days and times to carry out certain activities. This information will help you start planning your working week.
- End each day by writing a list of the top three things you want to achieve the following day. Start the following day by working through those three things first.
- Ensure you have a plan that details your goals, how you will measure success, and in what timeframe. Only then you can work out the tactics required to achieve each goal. So often we can keep ourselves busy working on tactics, but they may not be in line with our bigger goals.
- There are all sorts of reasons for putting things off. Sometimes it’s because we don’t like doing them and find them boring, other times it can be due to not having enough time, or a lack of knowledge. Another reason is that you are stepping out of your comfort zone. Remember – the magic only happens when we expand our comfort zone. Wowsers! You are doing fantastically well but like all things, there is always a little room for improvement. You may feel that you have exhausted your learnings and need an outside view looking in on your business for some inspiration.
Here are some things you can do to grow your sales and feel more confident in your business –
- Evaluate what you are doing each day. Is there anything you could delegate or eliminate?
- Have a go at working out your utilisation. This is the % of the number of hours you earn income from vs. the number of hours you work. If you are working on a 121 basis with your clients, you will find that 50% is the most you can achieve. Think about whether you can increase your earnings by adding group work to your offerings. This can save you time and increase your earnings.
- Generally, we will find time for the things we like doing. There are tasks which are boring that we have to make ourselves do (or outsource) such as our tax returns, and some tasks take us outside of our comfort zone. The key thing is to identify what is stopping you from taking action. Is it a lack of time (excuse the pun), lack of knowledge, boredom or fear, or all of the above?
